Aaron Rodgers injury updates: MRI Confirms : Jets QB suffers torn Achilles, out for remainder of 2023 season : Jets is Zach Wilson’s team.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network operator Tom Pelissero, Aaron Rodgers suffered a “complete tear” of his left Achilles at the end of the 2023 season. Schefter also adds that there may be questions about whether he will ever step on the field again.

“Aaron Rodgers’ torn Achilles might be the most devastating injury to a team and fan base in NFL history. There never has been a player who received more off-season hype, who raised another team’s expectations more, who had his season end 4 plays in without ever completing a pass”
An MRI confirmed today that Aaron Rodgers officially tore his Achilles on the fourth play of his Jets’ career.
Rodgers’ season now, officially, is over. There already are questions about whether his Hall-of-Fame career is, too.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter

What happened to Aaron Rodgers?

In the first quarter of Monday Night Football’s Jets-Bills game, Rodgers suffered an ankle injury, according to ESPN. His return was listed as “doubtful” before he was later ruled out.

Bills rusher Leonard Floyd sacked Rodgers, and after the game ended, Rodgers sat on the field. In the end, he was helped off the field by the coaching staff.

Rodgers went to the blue medical tent and the ESPN broadcast mentioned that the cart was on its way to the tent. He was shown in a carriage and later in the game wearing shoes.

Earlier in the preseason, Rodgers suffered a minor calf injury but practiced and played in the final preseason game.

Zach Wilson would replace the injured Rodgers in 2-2, but passes the ball. The Jets won in overtime when Xavier Gipson scored a touchdown.

Torn Achilles recovery time in NFL

The recovery time for a torn Achilles tendon is on average 9-12 months after an athlete’s surgery.

Some players recover and return to the field faster, like Cam Akers of the Rams, who played his first NFL game 5 1/2 months after tearing his Achilles in 2021. The players who returned early were often not the same players however, it was when they were eliminated the first time, and at 39, Rodgers faces an uphill climb if the injury is confirmed.
